Instructors
Greta Smith, aka "Miss Greta," has been a teacher at Encore Dance Center since 1996, covering a variety of levels and dance styles. She has also served as Artistic Director and/or instructor at other area schools. As a performer, Greta participated in Disney Magic Music Days (Orlando, FL), Ephrata Community Theater(Ephrata, PA), and various local community venues. As Cocalico High School’s spring musical choreographer since 2000, she has set dance number to the music of “Bye Bye Birdie”, “Godspell”, “Meet Me in St. Louis” and, coming in the spring of 2003, “The Wiz”. She was quoted on choreography in Dance Teacher Magazine, a national dance publication in 2000.
At the age of six, Miss Greta’s dance training began at Encore and continued there for eleven years. Other training includes classes at Broadway Dance Center (New York), and dance seminars such as American Heritage Dance Convention and New York City Dance Alliance. In her years as a teacher’s assistant, the majority with Ballet Director Marjorie Dougherty, she learned to structure her own classes and how to “break down” steps for her students. Miss Greta has attended several teacher-specific seminars, among them the Robert Christopher Seminar (Lancaster, PA), International Teachers of Dance (New Jersey), and Little People’s Creative Workshop (North Carolina) where she was certified in the preschool dance. “I received a real passion for dance and excellent training from my own teachers here at Encore, and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to help pass both to the next generation of Encore dancers!
